Grand Teton
We spent the start and end of the trip in Grand Teton National Park, which is distinct from Yellowstone National Park and just to the south of it. The main attraction is the Teton range of mountains, which includes les trois tetons ("the three breasts") - named in 1830s by some French-Canadian fur-trappers, who presumably hadn't seen any women for a while. |
Geothermal Features
Yellowstone National Park is of course famous for its geysers, mud pots and hot springs. The colours of the latter are mainly caused by the microorganisms that live in them; they are different colours depending on the temperature. |
General
More shots from Yellowstone. A lot of these are from the area around Lake Yellowstone Lodge, where we stayed in a cabin while in the park. |

Hatfield Peverel
Snaps from while we were staying with Kirstie's parents. Kirstie's sisters and their families joined us one day during our last weekend. |
Mike and Fiona's
These photos are from a day we spent at Mike and Fiona's, including a visit to Chelmsford's "three foot high festival", where the ball pools were a major hit. |
Watermen's Company
Our trip was timed to coincide with the installation of my Dad as Master of the Company of Watermen and Lightermen. This 450 year old institution was set up essentially as the regulatory body for people working on the tidal River Thames. These days it remains responsible for apprenticeship and licensing regulations on the river, and has an active role in promoting rowing. |
Feering
Various photos from the days that we spent staying with my parents. A lot of the boys' time was spent either throwing tennis balls for the dog, or being pushed around the garden in pedal cars. |
London
We spent the middle week of the holiday staying with Kirstie's sister Lisa in London. It was great to check out a few old haunts. Quite a few of these photos were taken at the Science Museum, which seems to have come on a lot since I last went there a few decades ago. |
Southwold
Towards the end of our holiday we spent a day with my Mum and Dad at Southwold in Suffolk, where we had a couple of family holidays when I was very young. It was a typical English summer's day at the beach - sunny, but windy. |

Holiday Photos One
In December 2004 we went on holiday for a week in Jamaica with our friends Martin and Carolyn and their boys Finley and Archie. We stayed at a great resort near Negril - everyone had a very good time. |
Holiday Photos Two
More pictures of us enjoying the beach and pool in Jamaica. |
Palm Tree Abstracts
All of these photos are of the same tree; it was growing in front of our apartment. |

Page One
In February 2004 we took a short four day holiday to the Our Lucaya resort on Grand Bahama. This was the first beach holiday we had taken for over ten years, and it fitted the bill perfectly. It was just what we needed after the New York winter, however the snow storm that greeted us at Newark Airport on the way back reminded us that it wasn't quite over yet. |

Mount St Helens and Oregon Coast
On the first day of the holiday we popped up to Mount St Helens in Washington. It is an amazing place, with the blast zone still virtually devoid of vegetation. We then spent the next few days on the Oregon coast. This was Adam's first real experience of the beach - he loved it. |
Oregon Cascades
In the second half of the trip we drove up through the Oregon part of the Cascade Range, which features many volcanic peaks and craters. Our return to Portland took us along the Columbia River Gorge past several spectacular waterfalls. |
