The town is the only one in Greenland that is not on the coast, being at the end of a 160km long fjord. It is therefore pretty secure from fog, which is why the airport was first built as a US base in World War II. 400 people live here, almost all connected to the airport. ![]() |

The departures board the next morning, interesting to see Pituffik Space Base, the American base in the far north of the country, on the list. Nuuk was still fogged out so the daily Copenhagen flight actually came into and left from here that day. ![]() |
