Steaming springs in the Mud Volcano Area
I love the smell of sulphur in the morning
Dragon's Mouth Spring - the steam puffs rhythmically as the water sloshes in and out of the cavern
Hot tubs
Main Terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs
Adam and I did the climb
Mound Terrace
The hot springs deposit calcium carbonate dissolved from limestone to form the terraces
Doublet pool - the water is 90° C
Water violently boiling
The blue coloured water is caused by microorganisms that thrive in the hottest temperatures
Old Faithful erupting, the boiling water goes 30-55m high every 90 minutes or so
At 60m high, Beehive Geyser is taller than Old Faithful, but is irregular and erupts
only once or twice daily when active, so we were very lucky to see it in action!

Heart Spring, only just below boiling point
Liberty Pool - the orange colour comes from microorganisms that like slightly less hot water
Lakeshore Geyser in Yellowstone Lake
Impressive colours
Black Pool - named at a time when the water wasn't as hot and the microorganisms made it an inky black
Hot and not quite so hot
